Executive Director

Eagle's Nest Foundation - Pisgah Forest, NC
Eagle's Nest Foundation seeks an Executive Director to oversee administration of the Foundation’s core programs and partner with the Board of Trustees to develop policy and maintain the Foundation’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Executive Director will hire, mentor, and manage staff; assure the Foundation’s financial viability and non-profit status; provide fundraising leadership; and engage with the community and the Foundation's various stakeholders.

Eagle’s Nest Foundation operates with a mission of providing experiential education for young people, promoting the natural world and the betterment of human character. For over 96 years Eagle’s Nest Foundation has been providing hands-on educational programs for young people at each developmental stage of childhood from age 6 to 17. The three programs it supports—Eagle’s Nest Camp, The Outdoor Academy, and Hante Adventures—are intentionally designed to work together, offering a progression of learning. Each program can also stand alone as a unique experience. These programs encourage participants’ connection to, and responsible action within, the natural world and build the participants’ understanding of self within their community.

Nestled in the mountains of North Carolina, Eagle’s Nest Camp encourages the development of the whole child in a compassionate, encouraging community. Days are filled with activities that promote curiosity, creativity, independence, and growth. As a Western North Carolina summer camp, Eagle’s Nest provides school age children the opportunity to slow down and experience friendship and joyful living while immersing themselves in nature. In this inclusive community, campers are treated with respect and kindness. They are valued for the unique people they are. Built upon four cornerstones of intellect, craft, environment, and community, The Outdoor Academy is a fully accredited semester boarding school that has offered motivated 10th and 11th grade students a distinctive high school experience since 1995. The Outdoor Academy emphasizes the principles of simple living, work ethic, curiosity, integrity, stewardship, self-reliance, and gratitude in everything it does.

"For the first time in 23 years, we are seeking a new Executive Director. Our next Executive Director will find that ours is a unique organization. Our mission motivates us every day. We keep coming back because the rewards for our hard work are easy to find: laughing campers, thoughtful students, shouts of accomplishment, hugs of encouragement, soft rain in the trees, rhythmic cicadas, the chorus of frogs, and grateful letters from parents. If these sound like the kinds of challenges and opportunities that you have been craving, then we cannot wait to meet you." – Cormac Connor, President, Board of Trustees
