Kenya Education Fund
Kenya Education Fund seeks a Director of Development. The Director of Development will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission and growth of Kenya Education Fund by developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising, marketing, and events program. The Director of Development will drive both short- and long-term strategic planning, cultivating meaningful philanthropic relationships, and securing support for the organization's priorities. With a blend of innovative thinking and proven implementation, the Director of Development will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Board, and staff to elevate the organization's fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will build and execute impactful campaigns, maximize donor engagement, and implement new fundraising opportunities in a collaborative, community-focused environment.
Kenya Education Fund’s mission is to provide economically disadvantaged students in Kenya with scholarships, support, and educational resources for them to improve their lives and communities. In 2003 primary school in Kenya became free. Despite the positive impact of abolishing school fees for primary education in Kenya, secondary education remains a challenge. Currently, the enrollment rate is approximately 70%, and the majority of students still face barriers due to financial constraints and widespread poverty. It is estimated that before COVID only 53% of Kenyan youth were in secondary school, and of that 53% less than 40% graduated. KEF works to improve those odds, transitioning 98% of its students into higher learning institutions. Kenya Education Fund provides scholarships to students in Kenya based on need and merit. The process starts in grade nine, before students sit for their national exams. Each year, KEF distributes over 4,400 applications across all 47 counties. During the last intake, 161 students were awarded scholarships, giving them the opportunity to continue their education and transform their futures. Over the past 18 years, KEF has provided more than 4,500 scholarships and partnered with 153 schools, working towards achieving its vision of self-reliance for people in Kenya through education.
"Our next Director of Development will be a member of our leadership team and will have the privilege of working with a diverse and highly motivated team, (In Kenya & the U.S.) a very passionate Board of Trustees, and a committed community of donors. I'm looking for a thought partner, strategist, and a superb implementer with an ability to create long- and short-term plans and set targets for milestones and accountability measures. If you are that person, I look forward to discussing with you how we can do more and do better in providing educational opportunities to those who deserve them the most. One student at a time." — Dominic Muasya, Executive Director and Co-Founder
