Chief Advancement Officer
HomeRise - San Francisco, CA
HomeRise seeks an innovative, entrepreneurial, and mission-driven Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to lead its fundraising, communications, and external engagement strategies. This is an exciting opportunity to join the senior leadership team during a pivotal moment of growth and transformation. The CAO will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and contract support to grow private fundraising and elevate the organization's visibility and impact across the Bay Area. The CAO will lead a small team and oversee all aspects of fundraising, strategic communications, donor stewardship, and advancement operations, with a goal of raising $2–$3 million annually.
At HomeRise, they believe in the transformative power of home. They offer stability, support, and the opportunity for individuals experiencing homelessness to rise and rebuild their lives with essential support services such as mental health assistance and job training, empowering their residents to embark on a journey of self-transformation. This is an exciting time to join the HomeRise team. Their new CEO Janéa Jackson is building a dynamic new team and, in partnership with the Board, developing a new strategic plan and vision for HomeRise’s future. As a pioneer provider of Permanent Supportive Housing for those experiencing homelessness, HomeRise manages the largest portfolio of residential properties dedicated to that need in San Francisco. Formed in 1990 as Community Housing Partnership, HomeRise stands out among its peers in thought leadership and service provision, continuing a strong legacy of advocating for those who find themselves being homeless. They are proud recipients of the 2023 ULI Americas Award for Excellence, a testament to their commitment to innovation and impact in the field of supportive housing.
"HomeRise’s strategic roadmap for 2025–2026 prioritizes rebuilding our development infrastructure, sharpening our case for support, and re-establishing our place among San Francisco’s most trusted housing and human service organizations. The right candidate will see this not as a turnaround, but as an opportunity to shape a lasting philanthropic platform—one that honors HomeRise’s 35-year legacy and drives its next decade of impact. If you are energized by transformation, comfortable leading through complexity, and motivated by the belief that homes are the foundation of dignity and opportunity, we welcome your interest. The work ahead is demanding but deeply meaningful. With strong leadership, clear strategy, and renewed community trust, HomeRise’s best fundraising years are still ahead."— Janéa Jackson, Chief Executive Officer
