St. Benedict’s Preparatory School is is more than a school; it’s a community like no other. For over 156 years, they have stood in the heart of Newark, NJ, guided by the Rule of St. Benedict and the monks’ unwavering commitment to stability, service and education. Often called a miracle in education and recognized nationally as a model for revitalizing schools in urban, suburban and rural areas, St. Benedict’s has welcomed generations of students, from the children of German and Irish immigrants in the late 19th century to today’s vibrant, multi-ethnic student body representing all socioeconomic and faith backgrounds. Four core pillars - Community, Student Leadership, Counseling and Experiential Education - have defined and distinguished a St. Benedict’s Prep education for nearly 50 years. The pillars are deeply ingrained into the life of the School. They ground them during times of crisis and provide the foundation for students to grow into loving, capable, resilient young people.
