Chief Development Officer
Air Force Aid Society - Washington, DC
The Air Force Aid Society seeks a Chief Development Officer who will serve as a visionary architect and executive leader, responsible for dramatically scaling the philanthropic capacity, visibility, and donor base of the Air Force Aid Society. This is not a maintenance role — it is a transformational leadership opportunity. The CDO will partner directly with the CEO and Board of Trustees to design and execute a multi-year fundraising growth strategy, launch new donor pipelines, cultivate major and principal gift relationships, and establish AFAS as one of the nation’s premier military charities with impact at scale. This individual must be both a strategic thinker and a hands-on fundraiser — a builder who thrives on growth, innovation, and results.
Founded in 1942, the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) is the official charity of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. Their mission is simple and unwavering: to help Airmen, Guardians, and their families when they need AFAS most. AFAS provides financial assistance, educational support, community programs, and disaster relief to Air Force and Space Force families worldwide. That aim is as important today as it was over 80 years ago. In 2024 alone, AFAS provided over $14 million in direct assistance to 15,500 individuals through emergency financial relief, disaster response, education support, mental health resources, childcare, and community resilience programs.
AFAS recently received a historic capacity-building investment to significantly expand its national reach, philanthropic partnerships, and long-term mission impact. This marks a pivotal moment for the organization, shifting AFAS to a proactive, strategic, and future focused approach. The Chief Development Officer will be the architect of this next chapter, building the fundraising infrastructure, donor community, strategic partnerships, and philanthropic momentum required to sustain this generational growth.
