Vice President for Advancement

Oberlin College and Conservatory - Oberlin, OH
Oberlin College and Conservatory, one of the nation’s preeminent liberal arts institutions, seeks an experienced, strategic and aspirational fundraising professional to serve as the next Vice President for Advancement. The VP will join Oberlin at a pivotal moment as it prepares for a fundraising campaign and marks its bicentennial in 2033. The new Vice President for Advancement will join an Advancement team known for their fundraising expertise, dedication to mission, and service to alumni. In turn, Oberlin seeks a vice president who appreciates the institution’s academic and musical excellence, is imaginative and well-organized, and is capable of articulating an overarching strategy. Success for the next vice president will, in part, be defined by an ability to launch, maintain, and complete an ambitious fundraising campaign, help populate the Oberlin College & Conservatory Board with effective trustees, educate and engage all members of the Oberlin community – faculty, staff, students, alumni, and senior administrators – and lead the Advancement team.

Oberlin is among the most distinguished of America’s liberal arts colleges. As an institution, it is deeply committed to academic and artistic excellence, to social justice, and to the use of knowledge to improve the human condition. Oberlin is distinct among liberal arts colleges for the breadth and caliber of its components, which in practice drives the institution to function more like a small university. With the College of Arts & Sciences and the Conservatory of Music, Oberlin boasts two distinctive and field-leading academic bodies. Fundraising plays a significant role in Oberlin’s operations, as well as its academic and musical investments. In the last academic year, the Advancement team exceeded many of their goals, raising $41.6 million in cash donations and recorded $50.9 million in attainment. Philanthropy has played a significant role at Oberlin including in the development of the popular Business major, other academic initiatives, supporting the Allen Memorial Art Museum, and continued support of the operations and development at Park Arts.

"This is a pivotal moment to join Oberlin’s leadership team. Driven by our One Oberlin initiative, we have a well-earned reputation for innovation in higher education. We have launched dynamic new academic programs, achieved record-setting application numbers, strengthened our financial foundation, and seen our endowment grow to $1.6 billion... I am seeking an aspirational, strategic, and collaborative leader who brings deep expertise in major and principal gifts, a proven track record in campaign execution, and an authentic connection to Oberlin’s mission and values." — Carmen Twillie Ambar, University President
